Up, Up and Away - Birthday Bash

Up, Up and Away - Birthday Bash

As soon as I set eyes on the new Birthday Bash Kit, I knew I’d make a scrapbook page like this…
My girls and I pass “The Real Up House” every week but had never stopped to check it out. Seeing the sweet balloon die and stamp and all the amazing poms, I knew it was time to change that status and pay the place a visit. It’s something I’d wanted to do anyway and now had the perfect scrappy motivation. ;)
Once the visit was made, the trickiest part of creating this page was paper piecing the house. I didn’t have a template or anything, so I simply freehand, looking at a picture of the house from the sweet Disney/Pixar flick, which I found on Pinterest.
To create the shingles on the roof, I punched small black circles and cut them in half. I then staggered their positions to give the roof a shingled feel.
To give the windows a more glass-like finish, I added dimensional glaze. NOTE: It’s best to leave the page to dry overnight at this point, just to make sure the “glass” is good and dry.
With the house constructed, the rest of the layout came together quickly. Wanting an extra full bouquet of balloons to lift the dwelling up, up and away, I actually stamped and die cut the bouquet image three times.

Time for pom play. I began by adding the largest pom size first. (The kit comes with an impressive assortment of small, medium, and large poms.)
I then filled in the remaining space with medium and small poms. Just like that, we have liftoff.
In place of a traditional title, I opted for a quote from the movie. The gems that come with the kit reminded me of quotation marks, especially on a whimsical page like this.
To complete the scene, I made some pom clouds and a few gem flowers.
If you look closely, you’ll see a little journaling along the patterned paper strip. I rarely like to exclude journaling from a page, as I always value the words and story, but there are times I prefer to keep the writing more conspicuous. This was one of those times. I didn’t want my chicken scratch to disrupt the feel of the design.
I very much enjoyed putting this layout together. If you’re ever in the area, The Real Up House is in Herriman, Utah, and it’s pretty fun to see. Until then, I hope you find this idea uplifting.
Cheers!
